Upgrading to higher performance windows and doors will improve energy efficiency, reduce condensation, improve comfort and likely reduce noise from the outside.
All windows and glazed doors should have high performance thermally broken composite frames and consist of sealed units incorporating plastic (not metal) spacers, one low emissivity (‘low e’) coating and argon filing of the glazing cavity. Opening lights and doors are to be equipped with double seals and locking three-point ‘espagnolette’ type ironmongery that ensures the seals are compressed all around the frame when the windows are closed. This work will also provide a significant opportunity to improve the airtightness of the home, on installation ensure this is detailed with appropriate measures such as expanding tapes and airtightness tapes.
