Infra-red heating is a form of space heating that converts electricity into heat. It can quickly create the feeling of warmth, and equally quickly loses it when switched off. Infra-red transmits warmth by radiation, which can allow slightly lower room temperatures whilst still letting people feel sufficiently warm. This means that infra-red heating can achieve comfort for slightly less electricity than other forms of direct electric heating, though technically it remains only around 100% efficient. There aren’t many studies quantifying the savings of infra-red heating over traditional direct electric heating, but current expectations are for a 10 – 20% improvement!
